Going in Style

Going in Style

(2017)

In a quiet suburban neighborhood, three lifelong friends—Joe, Al, and Willie—find their golden years turning into a struggle for survival when their pensions are unexpectedly cut. Frustrated by their dwindling bank balances and the realization that they may not be able to afford their everyday needs, they decide to take matters into their own hands. Inspired by the boldness of a local bank heist featured in a news segment, they hatch a plan to rob the very bank that betrayed them.

Joe, the ringleader, is a retired schoolteacher with a penchant for organizing and strategizing. He believes revenge can be sweet, especially against an institution that has forgotten about the elderly. Al, a widowed former firefighter, struggles with his own insecurities but finds a renewed sense of purpose in the heist. Willie, the retired accountant, approaches it most pragmatically, bringing his lifelong knack for numbers and planning into the mix but battling his own physical limitations.

As the trio prepares for their audacious escapade, they confront the challenges of aging—both physical and mental. They attend a risqué heist planning class led by a street-smart con artist named Mia, who has her own motives for mentoring the elderly gentlemen. With her guidance, they learn not just the ins and outs of bank robbery but also to embrace their own courage. However, as the plan unfolds, they discover that the real heist isn’t the bank itself but the friendships and memories they create along the way.

Navigating unexpected twists and hilarious mishaps, “Going in Style” explores themes of loyalty, friendship, and the surprising resilience of the human spirit. As the heist approaches, the stakes grow higher, testing their bonds and forcing them to confront questions of morality, purpose, and what it means to live life to the fullest—whatever the cost.

This heartwarming dramedy combines humor with poignant moments, showcasing a vibrant cast of characters who remind us that it’s never too late to stand up for yourself and that friendship can make the most outrageous plans possible.
