Duck Duck Goose

Duck Duck Goose

(2018)

In the heart of a bustling city, where the concrete jungle often overshadows the simple joys of childhood, “Duck Duck Goose” weaves a heartwarming tale that brings together an eclectic group of misfits and dreamers. The story centers around Nora, an imaginative nine-year-old who grapples with her parents’ recent divorce. Feeling lost and alone, she finds solace in her oversized yellow duck, Mr. Quackers, whom she believes has magical powers.

Nora’s world transforms when she discovers an abandoned playground at the edge of her neighborhood, a hidden gem filled with forgotten memories. With the help of her new friend Theo, an introverted boy with a passion for photography, they breathe new life into the place, turning it into a sanctuary for the kids in their urban surroundings. As they gather a diverse group of children—each carrying their own burdens—they initiate a game of Duck Duck Goose that morphs into a heartfelt ritual, bridging gaps between different backgrounds and experiences.

Among the group is Jade, a wise-beyond-her-years girl dealing with a parent struggling with addiction, and Malik, a young artist coping with the pressures of fitting in. As they overcome their personal struggles, the enchanting playground becomes a symbol of hope and healing, emanating laughter and camaraderie with each game they play. The children’s bond strengthens as they share secrets, support each other, and ultimately confront their fears, echoing the essence of growing up.

However, just as their newfound paradise flourishes, the playground faces imminent demolition as the city plans to pave it over for a new development. Faced with the threat of losing their haven, the kids band together to fight for what is rightfully theirs. Their journey of courage, friendship, and resilience culminates in a heart-stirring climax that not only challenges their understanding of home but also teaches them about the lasting power of community and hope.

“Duck Duck Goose” is a poignant exploration of childhood innocence, the complexities of family dynamics, and the unyielding spirit of friendship, reminding audiences of all ages that sometimes, the simplest games bring about the most transformative magic.
