Kongsi Raya

Kongsi Raya

(2022)

In the heart of Malaysia, during the festive season of Hari Raya, a colorful tapestry of culture, family, and tradition comes to life in “Kongsi Raya.” The story follows the lives of two estranged cousins, Farhan and Aisha, who both navigate the challenges of modern life while grappling with their childhood memories and family expectations.

Farhan, an ambitious but overworked tech entrepreneur in Kuala Lumpur, is consumed by deadlines and stress, desperately trying to make a name for himself in a competitive industry. His childhood was marked by joyous times spent with his cousin Aisha at their grandmother’s house, where the festive spirit of Raya was in full bloom. But an unexpected fallout over a long-buried family secret led them down different paths, drifting apart and leaving their cherished memories behind.

On the other hand, Aisha, a free-spirited artist living in a quaint village, has embraced the tranquility of her roots. She spends her days painting vibrant murals that capture the essence of her Malay heritage. While she relishes the simple joys of life, the weight of family obligations lingers, and she secretly yearns for a reconciliation with Farhan.

As the festive season approaches, the family gathers for the annual Raya celebration at their grandmother’s house, rekindling memories and long-forgotten bonds. However, an unforeseen storm threatens to derail the festivities, forcing the family to confront unresolved issues. Farhan and Aisha are thrust together, navigating the complexities of their past while discovering painful truths about their families and themselves.

In the midst of laughter, tears, and the aroma of traditional delicacies, both cousins embark on a journey of rediscovery, understanding the importance of forgiveness and unity. Along the way, they encounter colorful relatives, each with their own quirks and stories, adding depth to their shared narrative.

“Kongsi Raya” beautifully captures the essence of community, the struggles of modern life, and the magic of tradition, reminding us that even amidst chaos, love and family can always find a way to come together in celebration.
