Lost River

Lost River

(2014)

In the heart of the Pacific Northwest, a small, forgotten town named Riverton hides a dark secret beneath its tranquil rivers and lush forests. “Lost River” follows Mara Thompson, a young woman grappling with the recent death of her estranged mother, who unexpectedly inherits a dilapidated house in Riverton. As she arrives to settle her mother’s affairs, Mara discovers that the townsfolk harbor mysterious whispers about the fabled Lost River—a hidden waterway said to be a gateway to alternate realities.

Determined to uncover the truth about her mother’s past, Mara befriends Leo, a local historian who is as charming as he is enigmatic. Together, they delve into the town’s folklore, piecing together stories of lost loves, forgotten lives, and the curse that keeps Riverton trapped in time. During their exploration, they encounter Ava, an elderly woman who holds the key to the town’s enigmatic history, and Jimmy, a troubled teen who has encountered the Lost River in his dreams, revealing haunting visions of what lies beyond their world.

As Mara navigates through her mother’s hidden life—including a series of journals that hint at a personal connection to the Lost River—she starts experiencing strange occurrences that blur the line between reality and fantasy. Each chapter of her mother’s life intertwines with the legends of Riverton, revealing how their stories are inextricably linked. However, the deeper they dig, the more Mara unearths the town’s dark past, putting her own life at risk. As secrets unravel, she must confront the traumas that have haunted generations of women in her family and decide whether to embrace her heritage or break free from the cycle.

“Lost River” is an enchanting thrill ride through the complexities of love, regret, and the search for identity. With lush cinematography and a haunting score, it captures the essence of small-town magic and the eternal human longing to belong. Viewers will be drawn into Mara’s journey as she learns that sometimes the greatest discoveries lie not in what is lost, but in what we choose to find within ourselves.
