In 1965 Los Angeles, a struggling widow, Alice Zander, desperately tries to make ends meet for her two daughters, Pauline and Doris. Running a small fortune-telling business, Alice resorts to trickery and faint paranormal gimmicks to attract customers, unaware that her attempts to make a living may lead her down a dark path.
