Poster Boys

Poster Boys

(2017)

In the heart of a shrinking Midwest town, three friends—Max, Liam, and Jake—struggle to find their place in a world that feels like it’s moving on without them. Once the invincible trio known as the “Poster Boys” in high school, they banded together to embody the very essence of youthful exuberance. But now, ten years later, they’re stuck in dead-end jobs, grappling with unfulfilled dreams, and haunted by the ghosts of their wider aspirations.

Max, the charismatic ringleader, works at a local auto shop but yearns to be a filmmaker. He’s spent countless nights crafting a screenplay inspired by their lives, hoping to revive the magical camaraderie of their youth through cinema. Liam, the reluctant realist, has settled into a predictable life as a family man, caught between the responsibilities of fatherhood and the thrill of chasing his long-buried passions. Then there’s Jake, the sensitive artist who struggles with depression and finds solace only in his paintings, constantly battling the feeling of invisibility that his friends fail to notice.

When the town announces a film contest offering a cash prize and a chance to showcase their project, Max sees this as their last shot to reclaim their glory and break free from the suffocating routine. He convinces Liam and Jake to join him in creating a documentary that captures their journey of friendship, love, and the haunting nostalgia of their youth. As they delve deeper into the project, old wounds are reopened, secrets are revealed, and the geometry of their friendship begins to shift in unexpected ways.

Throughout their creative process, they meet a host of diverse characters—a spirited local filmmaker who encourages them to embrace their authentic selves, a nostalgic high school teacher who reminisces about their glory days, and a gritty barista who shows them that dreams are worth fighting for, no matter the age.

“Poster Boys” explores themes of friendship, identity, and the bittersweet nature of growing up. The series combines humor and heartache as it painstakingly navigates the complexities of adult life, capturing the essence of youth while underscoring the importance of embracing change and forging one’s path—reminding us that sometimes, to move forward, we must first look back.
