Pulimada

Pulimada

(2023)

In the heart of Kerala, amidst sprawling green landscapes and serene backwaters, lies an ancient village steeped in history and tradition. “Pulimada” follows the intertwined fates of two childhood friends, Anaya and Raghav, whose lives are irrevocably altered when a mysterious artifact emerges from the depths of the river during the annual monsoon festival.

Raghav, a spirited local historian, is captivated by the discovery: a beautifully carved wooden sculpture believed to hold the key to the village’s forgotten myth of Pulimada, the guardian spirit. Legend has it that Pulimada once brought prosperity and harmony to the village, but with the artifact’s disappearance centuries ago, discord and tragedy have plagued the community. Anaya, a talented artist yearning to break free from societal expectations, sees the sculpture as a source of inspiration, propelling her to create a mural that depicts the legend and the struggles faced by the villagers.

As Anaya’s mural gains popularity, it reignites pride in the community but also awakens buried tensions. Opposing forces emerge: the village elder, who fears the resurgence of old traditions and believes in modernity above folklore, clashes with the young dreamers who seek to restore Pulimada’s legacy. Raghav finds himself caught in the middle, trying to mediate between old and new, while also harboring feelings for Anaya that he has never confessed.

The arrival of a big-city developer intent on transforming the village into a tourist destination puts immense pressure on the villagers. Raghav and Anaya must unite their community to protect their heritage, sparking a movement filled with vibrant festivities, poignant stories, and artistic expression. As the festival looms closer, secrets unravel, and the true meaning of friendship, sacrifice, and belonging is tested.

“Pulimada” is a visually stunning series that explores the delicate balance between tradition and modernity, the strength of community, and the power of art to speak when words fail. Set against breathtaking backdrops, this heartwarming narrative unravels the threads of love, loss, and the unyielding spirit of a village determined to reclaim its identity. It is a celebration of culture woven together with the universal quest for connection and understanding.
