Trying

Trying

(2024)

In the heart of a bustling urban landscape, “Trying” follows the life of Sarah, a 30-something aspiring writer whose dreams of literary success are met with the harsh realities of adult life. After receiving yet another rejection from her dream publisher, Sarah finds herself at a crossroads—still retreating to her cozy yet cluttered apartment, surrounded by half-finished manuscripts and crumpled papers, she grapples with the nagging thought that perhaps she should give up her writing ambitions.

Meanwhile, her partner, Tom, a devoted yet slightly exasperated elementary school teacher, has his own struggles. Despite his unwavering support for Sarah, he battles the pressures of his profession, where he feels more overwhelmed than inspired. Their relationship, once brimming with shared aspirations, begins to feel the weight of unanswered questions and expectations unfulfilled.

One day, in a spontaneous moment of desperation and humor, the couple decides to embark on a social experiment: they will try to live life as if every challenge is a stepping stone to personal growth. They set a series of whimsical goals—attending awkwardly designed workshops, hosting dinner parties for strangers, and even adopting a pet goldfish named Fred. All the while, they invite their eclectic group of friends, including their snarky neighbor, an eccentric artist named Jess, whose wild theories and bohemian flair bring both chaos and laughter to their lives.

As Sarah and Tom navigate the ups and downs of their self-imposed challenges, the series dives deep into themes of ambition, love, and resilience. The duo learns to embrace failure and the beauty in the messiness of life, finding strength in vulnerability and joy in trying—even when it feels futile.

With a backdrop of relatable city struggles and a cast of quirky, well-drawn characters, “Trying” captures the essence of modern relationships and the universal pursuit of dreams, reminding us that life’s greatest rewards often come not from success, but from the daring steps we take in the pursuit of who we wish to become. Through moments of laughter, heartache, and unexpected triumph, Sarah and Tom discover that the journey is just as important as the destination, and sometimes, all you really need is the courage to keep trying.
