Wannabe Courageous

Wannabe Courageous

(2019)

In the vibrant city of Los Angeles, “Wannabe Courageous” follows the life of Mia Chen, a 28-year-old aspiring screenwriter who finds herself stuck in a cycle of self-doubt and mediocrity. Working as a barista in a trendy café, she spends her days scribbling half-formed scripts in the margins of napkins, dreaming of a life where she’s unapologetically bold and authentic. Her world changes when she befriends an eclectic group of misfits who frequent the café, each with their own struggles and hidden talents.

Among them is Jake, a former child actor whose career faded with his adolescence; Lena, a fierce and outspoken activist fighting against systemic injustices; and Sam, a shy musician grappling with stage fright. Together, they challenge Mia to step out of her comfort zone and embrace her true self. Inspired by their stories, she decides to craft a film that weaves together their narratives, exploring themes of vulnerability, resilience, and the pursuit of courage.

As Mia embarks on her journey of storytelling, the group forms the “Courageous Collective,” a community dedicated to helping each other confront their fears and take risks. They host inspiring events, from open mic nights filled with raw performances to street art festivals celebrating individuality. Each encounter forces Mia to confront her own apprehensions, resulting in both heartbreaking and hilariously awkward moments that highlight the dynamic bonds they form.

However, the road to authenticity is fraught with obstacles. A fast-tracked opportunity to pitch her original screenplay to a prestigious director arises, but it also threatens to tear the group apart, as pressures mount and egos clash. Just as Mia is about to give up on her dreams, she learns that true courage lies not in perfection but in the willingness to be seen and heard, flaws and all.

“Wannabe Courageous” is a heartfelt exploration of friendship, creativity, and the transformative power of sincerity. Each character’s journey illustrates that bravery isn’t the absence of fear, but the choice to act in spite of it. With laughter, tears, and a vibrant soundtrack, this coming-of-age dramedy invites viewers to embrace their inner courage and celebrate the beauty of authenticity.
